ZaoJia yangmei
"Zaojia" is a new variety of early-maturing yangmei plum developed through bud mutation selection from the "biqi" plum orchard in Lianxi, Zhejiang Province. After years of cultivation and observation, it has been confirmed as a superior tree variety. Since 2006, Lianxi has been developing "zaojia yangmei" through seedling propagation and high-rootstock grafting. In September 2013, it was recognized and named by the Zhejiang Province Tree Variety Appraisal Committee. This variety has a nearly spherical fruit shape, with a bright purple-black surface and uniform coloring. The fruit stem has a yellow-green color, and the flesh is relatively hard. The flavor is rich, with an average single fruit weight of 12.5 grams, a fruit shape index of 0.96, a edible rate of 95.7%, a soluble solids content of 11.4%, a total sugar content of 10.3%, a total acid content of 1.17%, a citric acid content of 1.08%, and a vitamin C content of 21.7 mg·kg-1. The quality is medium to high.
The "zaojia" yangmei has a moderate growth rate and a dwarf tree form. Its maturity period in Lianxi is generally at the end of May or the beginning of June, 15 days earlier than "dongkui" yangmei and more than 5 days earlier than "biqi" plum. "Zaojia" yangmei has large fruits, early ripening, good fruiting performance, stable yield, and excellent quality.
