Product Introduction

Product Name: Fujian Jiuyuehuang Guava (September Yellow Guava)

Description:
Fujian Jiuyuehuang Guava is a rare local soft-flesh, strongly aromatic guava varietyoriginating from Zhangzhou, Fujian Province. It was discovered and collected by researcher Zhang Chaokun of the Zhangzhou Institute of Agricultural Sciences and is recognized as the yellowest-fleshed guava germplasm found to date . It belongs to the soft-flesh, strong-aroma category of guavas — a traditional type that has been largely displaced by introduced Taiwanese crisp-flesh varieties but is now being preserved and promoted for its unique eating quality and processing potential .

A Guava That Delivers on Yellow Flesh:

The defining feature of Jiuyuehuang is its strikingly yellow flesh concealed beneath a green to yellow-green skin. Among all yellow-fleshed guava varieties discovered in Fujian, it possesses the deepest yellow flesh color . Unlike the crisp, mild-flavored guavas that dominate the market, Jiuyuehuang offers a soft, creamy texture that melts in the mouth, accompanied by an intensely fragrant aromathat is highly distinctive .

Appearance:
The fruit is oval to elliptical, with a relatively smooth green skin that retains its color even when fully ripe. Inside, the flesh reveals a vibrant yellow hue, soft and fine-textured, with a rich, aromatic fragrance. Average fruit weight is approximately 200 grams .

Flavor & Texture:
Jiuyuehuang is celebrated for its sweet, aromatic flavor and soft, creamy flesh. It is a soft-flesh variety, meaning it softens quickly after harvest and has a short shelf life of only 3–7 days at room temperature (3–5 days for summer-autumn fruit, 5–7 days for winter-spring fruit) . This makes it best suited for local sales, direct-to-consumer channels, pick-your-own orchards, and processing applications rather than long-distance transport.

Key Commercial Advantages:

  • Yellowest Flesh Among Fujian Guavas – Highly distinctive appearance

  • Soft, Creamy Texture – Appeals to consumers who prefer a smoother, less crunchy guava

  • Rich, Fragrant Aroma– A standout characteristic for both fresh eating and juice processing

  • Excellent for Processing– Soft flesh and strong aroma make it ideal for concentrated juice production

  • Local Heritage Variety – Preserved by the Zhangzhou Institute of Agricultural Sciences as part of Fujian’s agricultural germplasm protection program

Growing Regions:
Native to Zhangzhou, Fujian Province, Jiuyuehuang is part of the 33 local guava varieties collected from early production areas including Yunxiao and Zhao’an by the Zhangzhou Institute of Agricultural Sciences since 2014 . It is now conserved in the 7.4-mu guava germplasm resource nursery in Tianbao Town, which houses 65 guava accessions .

Harvest Season:
Primarily autumn (around September)– hence the name “Jiuyuehuang” (September Yellow). As a soft-flesh variety, it can be harvested across multiple seasons with proper production management, but the autumn and winter crops are typically the most flavorful and aromatic .

Important Note for Growers:
This variety is a soft-flesh type with limited storage life (3–7 days). It is not suitable for long-distance transport or e-commerce shipping. Growers should focus on local markets, on-farm sales, pick-your-own operations, and processing channels to maximize returns. Confirm the exact cultivar identity with your supplier, as “Jiuyuehuang” is a market name for a local Fujian guava germplasm rather than a formally registered variety.
